Students Learn both the Language and the Culture of Turkey

Foreign students from 57 countries who came to Turkey to attend Yunus Emre Institute’s "Turkish Summer School" program, joined many cultural and artistic activities throughout the training program given at the Balıkesir University. On August 8th, a small concert was organized for students where Turkish folk instruments were introduced. Furthermore students learnt how to make handbags from waste paper at the Karesi Municipality's Hünerli Eller (Skilled Hands) Workshop.
The “Turkish Summer School" program of Yunus Emre Institute, which teaches Turkish language to tens of thousands of people at its many centres in different regions and cities, was organized in 22 Turkish cities this year. The 700 students from 57 countries who came to Turkey for this program took Turkish lessons for almost a month and visited numerous historical sites and tourist destinations.
They learnt about Turkish folk songs and Turkish instruments in Balıkesir
Yunus Emre Institute’s Turkish Summer School program was held in 22 cities including Balıkesir. Turkish language courses continued till noon and in the afternoons students participated in cultural and artistic activities and visited Balıkesir's historical and tourist sites. 19 foreign students attending the summer school in Balıkesir had actually learnt Turkish in their home country at the courses organized by Yunus Emre Centres. Young people blended their language with Anatolian culture in Turkish Summer School and explored Turkish culture and art in many activities they have participated.

As for the home countries of those 19 students in Balıkesir: they were from Jordan / Amman, Hungary / Budapest, Romania / Bucharest, Qatar / Doha, Albania / Shkoder, Ukraine / Kiev, Germany / Cologne, Somalia / Mogadishu, Kosovo / Pristina, South Korea / Seoul, Georgia / Tbilisi, Albania / Tirana and Poland / Warsaw.
